Welcome to "Lyrical," a mesmerizing art collection that harmoniously fuses the abstract realms of visual art with the evocative cadence of musical lyricism. In this exhibition, each canvas becomes a stanza, and every brushstroke is a note, capturing the essence of lyrical interpretation in the most abstract and profound sense. Here, the art transcends traditional boundaries, translating the emotional depth of music into a visual language that resonates with the soul. From the rhythmic dance of colors that mirrors the beat of a melody to the poignant interplay of shapes that echoes the ebb and flow of a lyrical narrative, "Lyrical" invites you to experience a synesthetic journey where the boundaries between sound and sight dissolve. Prepare to be immersed in a symphony of visual poetry, where each artwork whispers a unique story, and the entire collection orchestrates a profound celebration of the intersection between the auditory and the visual, creating a gallery symphony for the senses.
I have been creating art since I was a child. I didn't become formally trained until my late 40's, graduating when I was 50 years old. You are NEVER too old. Was it hard? Absolutely! I was a single parent raising two boys and working part-time. "If you can hold it in your head, you can hold it in your hand." -Bob Proctor
Most of what inspires my paintings, drawings, inks, and photography is, like most artists, the need to get a message from mind to medium. Those messages can be triggered by a song, lyric, beat, interaction, movie, conflict, etc.
My hope is that each piece will inspire conversations. What's better than a deep conversation that prompts new ideas, cultural experiences, challenges, and growth?
When I was an Art Educator, I loved introducing students to other cultures' contributions and how it relates to the way we communicate today.
I work mainly in graphite and charcoal, acrylics, and alcohol inks. I just started working in watercolors and have quickly become obsessed. (check out the fruit and veggie series)
I earned my BA in Art/Art Education with a minor in Secondary Education from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. I then completed my MS in Marketing from Walden University.

Life is never just black and white. I love value because it represents evolution...an ever-changing range of colors.
I love using graphite and charcoal to create the value in a portrait. Especially in one of an older person where you see their life through the wrinkles and weathered skin.
Another medium I love using is alcohol inks. Alcohol Inks and the technique create unpredictable experiences. You can manipulate them using air, blenders, and brushes. They are typically used on a substrate material such as Yupo paper, Nara paper, or photo paper. Sometimes used on canvas if primed correctly to create a non-porous surface. Their vibrancy is total opposite of the black and white values I am used to when using graphite and charcoal.
My creativity shows in many mediums... graphite & charcoal, acrylics, photography, sculpting, alcohol inks, oils, crafts, art education, culinary, and music.
I am willing to try any medium.
I love learning new techniques.
As a former art educator, I found a love for History through Art History. As a high school student, I was never very interested in History. As I grew older and realized I had missed out on the "why" of our actions, History became more interesting and eye-opening.
When I became an educator, I learned more by teaching. I learned so much from observing how students become engaged in various mediums and to which artists they gravitated. Students loved hearing their stories. We had a lot of great conversations around some of the more rebellious artists.
Below is a list of artists I found fierce in their passion and left a historical mark on my desire to create:
Georgia O'Keeffe
Pablo Picasso
Jackson Pollock
Salvador Dali
Jacob Lawrence
Hieronymos Bosch
Ansel Adams
Annie Leibovitz
Chuck Close
Caravaggio
Vincent VanGogh
Banksy
Mark Rothko
